This position is the first step in the Transportation Operations Team Leader (TOTL) horizontal career path series. The TOTL HCP starts at the Transportation Technician Principal, Maintenance (TTPM) classification. This is a challenging career opportunity as a working foreman that will focus on supervising staff, coordinating Bridge and Building Maintenance and assisting with snow removal. The successful candidate will be proactive, safety focused, have excellent communication and computer skills and will be a constructive team leader. They will also be able to balance working alongside the crew and completing supervisory responsibilities. Employees in the Transportation Operations Team Leader (TOTL) horizontal career path must complete the following two steps within four years. In order to pass the steps, you must meet key performance indicators, demonstrate essential skills and maintain worker safety.

This position will be classified as a working foreman and will work alongside of their crew.

After successful completion of each step, wages may increase as outlined below :

  • TTPM Entry : $25.21
  • TTPM Step 1 : $28.41
  • TOTL Step 2 : $32.35

The current opening requires :

  • Current Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement at time of hire.
  • Random drug and alcohol testing
  • Occasionally work nights and weekends
  • Example of Duties :

  • Supervises or coordinates maintenance projects on state highways, bridges and buildings.
  • Assists staff to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate activities of staff in major maintenance and repair projects.
  • Estimates equipment, materials and manpower needed for projects.
  • Uses highway plans, bridge plans, building plans, specifications, maps and aerial photos for repair, updating and improvement.
  • Uses bridge and building reports to prioritize work
  • Inspects completed work and assures quality and compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Coordinates activities with utility companies, city, county and state agencies and contractors.
  • Coordinates work with Facilities Operation Manager.
  • Incumbents are required to work in all weather conditions, under hazardous conditions, on obstructed roads and congested highways, in considerable noise, around operating equipment, and with hazardous materials. Frequent travel to and from work site with some overnight stay is required. Some positions require maintaining a residence within 30 minutes from their workstation.

    Minimum Qualifications :

    Good knowledge of :

  • Highway maintenance materials and procedures;
  • Equipment management systems and operational capabilities and limitations for highway maintenance activities;
  • Policies, procedures and traffic control for highway maintenance.
  • Must have current Flagging Certification.
  • Minimum requirements gained by one year of experience or OJT training.

    Experience :

  • Planning and organizing work crews with appropriate equipment and materials for routine and emergency maintenance and repair projects : Minimum requirement gained by experience organizing groups with proper personnel / equipment for routine single activity work; routine instruction of others; organizing groups for routine project activity; checking to assure work is in compliance with standards.
  • Training others in equipment operation and methods and procedures used for highway maintenance and repair : Minimum requirement gained by experience organizing groups with proper personnel / equipment for routine single activity work; routine instruction of others; organizing groups for routine project activity; checking to assure work is in compliance with standards.
  • One year experience with bridge repair, inspection, construction or a combination
  • One year experience with building repair, inspection, construction or a combination
  • Inspecting maintenance and repair activities for compliance with standard practice and specifications : Minimum requirement gained by MOP manual use; Inspection of completed projects to assure compliance with Idaho maintenance standards / project specifications.
  • Using project plans, specifications, and special provisions : Minimum requirement gained by MOP manual use; Inspection of completed projects to assure compliance with Idaho maintenance standards / project specifications.
  • Operating and performing preventive maintenance on heavy maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Requires a valid driver's license

    Desired Qualifications :

    Knowledge of :

  • Heavy equipment and fleet operations; supervisory and leadership practices; Microsoft Office software;
  • Experience :

  • Working in a collaborative and high-functioning team environment; collecting data in electronic databases, analyzing the data and making business decisions based on the data
