Example Of Duties

Watercraft Inspection Station Supervisors are expected to perform tasks of a Watercraft Inspector working in teams of two to inspect watercraft and other potential conveyances of invasive species for zebra and quagga mussels along with other state listed invasive species or noxious weeds that stop at the watercraft inspection stations. Inspectors will be performing decontaminations of watercraft or other convenances with a heated pressure wash unit as needed. Working with the public on a regular basis to gather information on conveyances and perform outreach is required. Information gathered while performing these inspections will need to be recorded in Survey123 (an ArcGIS Online application) completely and accurately. Basic understanding of watercraft and principles of Clean, Drain, Dry are helpful. However, inspectors will be provided with a two-day training on Idaho’s Watercraft Inspection protocols and hands-on training for watercraft decontaminations meeting the certification requirements for IWIT Level 1. In addition to the tasks of an Inspector, Station Supervisors are expected to complete staffing schedules, remind inspectors to complete timecards, keep track of and notify regional specialists of inspection tool, inspection form, and personal protective equipment (PPE) needs, hold responsibility for decontamination unit WEX (fuel) card and related purchasing documentation to be given to specialists monthly, report personnel issues as they arise, and ensure inspections are being completed to the state requirements. A basic understanding of small engines is helpful. Where state issued vehicles are available, some Station Supervisors may be required to trailer decontamination units or water tenders. This position will work closely with regional specialists and station staff to ensure the station remains operable during business hours throughout the season. Good written and verbal communication is necessary.

Climbing ladders and up into trailered watercraft as well as under trailered watercraft to perform inspections and/or decontaminations will be required. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as ear plugs, safety glasses, Hi-Vis vests, etc. will be provided. Exposure to outdoor hazards such as severe weather or wildlife may occur. This station does get impacted by Mormon Cricket hatches. An enclosed building with AC and heat is provided.
