Job Responsibilities
- Participates in the development, establishment, and implementation of institutional rules, regulations, directives, policies, and procedures of the institution to verify proper operations of daily functions.
- Plans organize and direct the overall Program functions and their managers, including healthcare services, chaplaincy, clinical services, and corrections identification.
- Conducts interviews and counsels individuals in custody.
- Serves as a full line supervisor.
- Completes daily routine inspections of the institution for security, safety, and sanitation.
- Serves as Employee Review Board Officer
- Travels to various locations to attend management meetings, training and to speak to lay and professional groups regarding the institution's programs.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology, or a related field,
- Requires four years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement public or private organization, a correctional facility, or a related field.
Employment Conditions
- Ability to Travel.
- Ability to qualify with firearms within twelve months of the start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directives and state or federal laws.
- Ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department's zero-tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
- Governor Pritzker announced a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all State employees whose job duties require them to work in a congregate-care facility. All 24/7 congregate-care facilities operated by the Illinois Department of Corrections are included in this mandate, which is scheduled to take place October 26, 2021. The State will offer the exemptions required under law for those who cannot be vaccinated for medical and/or religious reasons.
