POSITION SUMMARY

Central Management Services Division of Vehicles is seeking to hire a highly motivated and professional candidate to serve as an Automotive Shop Supervisor. This position will serve as a full-line supervisor managing the automotive shop, instructing, and directing subordinates in the repair and preventive maintenance of the State’s fleet and other off-road machinery. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under direction of the Northern Regional Manager, manages, instructs, and directs subordinates in the repair and reconditioning of automobiles, trucks, and other equipment and machinery commonly used on highway construction and maintenance activities.
  • Serves as full line supervisor.
  • Maintains a perpetual inventory of all stock, tools, and other equipment.
  • Serves as liaison to client agency personnel.
  • Receives mechanic time tickets and calculates mechanic labor.
  • Maintains filing systems for records / documents.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of High School.
  • Requires three (3) years’ experience as an automotive mechanic.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prefers three (3) or more years professional experience gaining knowledge of standard garage methods, shop practices, and the techniques, tools, and machinery used.
  • Prefers three (3) or more years professional experience supervising the work of skilled and semiskilled mechanics, obtaining efficient results from their efforts.
  • Prefers one (1) or more year of professional experience keeping records, compiling information, developing reports, and requisitioning parts and materials.
  • Prefers three (3) or more years professional experience gaining knowledge of the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of standard automotive and related equipment, as well as machinery employed in road maintenance and construction.
  • Prefers three (3) or more years professional experience detecting mechanical defects and ordering proper repairs.
  • Prefers three (3) or more years professional experience using the tools, machinery, and equipment of the automotive mechanic trade.
  • Prefers one (1) or more year of professional experience gaining knowledge of applicable garage occupational hazards and precautionary measures.
  • Prefers one (1) or more year of professional experience using word processing and spreadsheet software applications for tracking data, the development of reports, and other professional communications.
  • Prefers three (3) or more years professional experience maintaining satisfactory working relationships with subordinates.
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required / mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires the ability to bend, squat, and walk upstairs.
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel in the performance of duties.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant / employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420 / 4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
