Position Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician will play a vital role in ensuring accurate preparation, labeling, and delivery of medications, including chemotherapy drugs. This position involves supporting the mission and objectives of the hospital and pharmacy department, performing billing functions, restocking, and assisting in various pharmacy operations with precision and care.
Job Responsibilities:
- Accurately prepare and label chemotherapy drugs for administration.
- Fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists efficiently.
- Handle medication orders, including new or lost doses, unit dose, and floor stock replacement items.
- Perform IV preparation using aseptic techniques and non-sterile compounding.
- Inspect nursing units and pharmacy areas for expired or unusable drugs monthly.
- Assist in training new staff and special projects as assigned by leadership.
- Respond to and transfer telephone calls courteously, identifying oneself by name and location.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Typing skills (30 WPM minimum).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to calculate medication doses based on patients' age groups, including adult, pediatric, neonate, geriatric, and adolescent.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with chemotherapy handling, aseptic technique, and inventory management.
Education and Certifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certifications:
- Pharmacy Technician licensure through IDFPR.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification through PTCD or NHA.
