Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as an Office Assistant for the office of Employee Screening. The ideal candidate is self motivated, task oriented, has excellent organizational skills and shows great attention to detail. The role involves serving as a receptionist, managing phone calls, taking messages, and directing inquiries to appropriate staff. Responsibilities include keyboarding various documents, reviewing work for accuracy, sorting and distributing mail, creating file folders for applicants, and organizing documents. Essential Functions

  • Serves as a receptionist.
  • Keyboards a variety of difficult material including records, reports, correspondence and other documents.
  • Opens, date stamps, sorts, and distributes mail.
  • Mails screening notification packets.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires one (1) year of related office experience.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard 35 words per minute.

Condition of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
