Position Overview
The Corrections Maintenance Craftsman position, located at the Jacksonville Correctional Center will be an integral part of the maintenance team performing journey level maintenance and repair at the facility. The primary role of the Corrections Maintenance Craftsman is to inspect and identify equipment or machines in need of repair and will troubleshoot issues to determine necessary repairs. We are looking for a dedicated candidate seeking to be an integral part of our team, a candidate that can be trusted to display professionalism, integrity, civility and transparency. Essential Functions
- Performs maintenance work in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment.
- Inputs preventative maintenance, fuel receipts and issues, and work orders for all fleet vehicles
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
- Requires experience necessary to qualify as a journeyman in one of the maintenance or automotive repair trades.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in the knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the building maintenance trade.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in planning and laying out according to requirements of assignment and to lead individuals in custody by example and instruction.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience estimating and effecting economical usage of materials or supplies.
- Prefers at least six (6) years of experience in preparing reports of unusual happenings, accidents or violations or rules by employees and/or individuals in custody and operational reports.
- Prefers at least six (6) years of experience enforcing disciplinary, safety, security, and custodial measures for the control of individuals in custody.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience performing preventive maintenance on facility buildings, equipment, vehicles and machinery.
- Prefers at least six (6) years of experience interpreting work from verbal or written instructions.
- Prefers at least six (6) years of experience thinking clearly and exercising forceful initiative in emergency situations to contain the hazard.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
- Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
- Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
