Position Overview
The Office of Community Assistance is seeking to hire a Human Services Grants Coordinator Trainee to be part of a team of Grant Managers who work with 35 grantees throughout Illinois for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program and the Community Services Block Grant. The ideal candidate will complete a training program to work with their grantees to ensure federal policies are being followed on an ongoing basis and at onsite monitoring. The programs make up more than $350 million in federal funding to assist over 300,000 low-income Illinois residents to pay utility bills and help them with the tools they need to rise out of poverty. Essential Funtions
- Participates in an agency sponsored training program to gain knowledge on conducting site visits to grantee agencies for the Office of Community Assistance.
- Assists with providing information and technical assistance to grantees to ensure implementation of the Office of Community Assistance funded programs.
- Completes training for reviewing general ledgers, cost ledgers, journals, bank statements, and corporate ledgers to ensure costs are charged and recorded accurately.
- Completes electronic reports and spreadsheets to enhance and establish evaluations, assists with completing reports, technical materials, and correspondence relative to the development and implementation of office programs.
- Assists with the negotiations of grant agreements and modifications.
- Attends training seminars to obtain experience and knowledge relative to programs.
- Reviews federal register, state rules and regulations, and division manuals and policy memorandums to keep abreast of changes affecting program management.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in the social sciences, public and business administration, energy conservation or a related field.
- Requires a minimum of six (6) college semester hours of accounting or equivalent professional accounting experience.

- Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
