Position Overview


This position is responsible for conducting research and analysis to identify risks and vulnerabilities across all aspects of Information Technology for the department and recommends appropriate and effective risk management actions. Under the supervision of the IT Compliance Manager, this position assists in analyzing all agency applications and documentation including business processes, Business Impact Analysis (BIA) reports, and Information Systems Contingency Plans (ISCP) to develop risk assessments for applications and IT-related support activities for the department. The incumbent assists with the effective execution of the IT risk management framework across the department.


Essential Functions

  • Conducts research, system, and application analysis to identify risks and vulnerabilities. Recommends appropriate and effective management across all aspects of IT for the department.
  • Analyzes all agency applications and documentation including business processes, Business Impact Analysis (BIA) reports, and Information Systems Contingency Plans (ISCP) to develop risk assessments for applications and IT-related support activities.
  • Assists IT management and staff with application and project reviews to ensure the functionality, integrity, and security of the department’s systems and applications.
  • Verifies IT risks are appropriately documented for mitigation with solutions and controls easily identified and aligned with business area requirements.
  • Provides expertise for resolution and risk mitigation; develops, tracks, and reports on Key Risk Indicators (KRIs); and monitors, tracks, and reports on mitigation and resolution of risks.
  • Monitors, assesses, identifies, and reports mitigation and resolution of risks to which the department is exposed.
  • Conducts research which includes reviewing historical data, business processes and technical resources to develop in-depth assessments of threats to the department’s networks, systems, users, and data.
  • Assists IT management in vetting new issues and conducting analysis for identifying applicable regulatory risks from changes or additions to regulatory guidance and requirements.
  • Performs process-level walkthroughs and works with data and security staff to ensure control testing actions are completed and documented for the identification and assessment of IT risk and control actions.
  • Effectively communicates key risks, findings, and recommendations for improvement to project teams and key stakeholders.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Risk Management OR Completion of two years of college plus two years of experience in IT Risk Management, IT Audit, IT Compliance, IT Data Security, or a similar field OR Six years of experience in IT Risk Management, IT Audit, IT Compliance, IT Data Security, or a similar field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of key technology concepts such as access control, data classification, data, encryption, business continuity, contingency planning, information security vulnerability scans, and technical applications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with others to establish goals, objectives, and action plans.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
