Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for an organized candidate to fill the position of Office Assistant with the Taylorville Correctional Center. The chosen candidate assists in the mailroom at Taylorville Correctional Center. This individual will be responsible for processing all incoming and outgoing facility mail and assist in the delivery of mail to roll call for distribution to the individuals in custody. Job Responsibilities
- Processes and distributes incoming and outgoing individuals in custody and staff mail.
- Maintains a log for each individual in custody incoming mail concerning monies received.
- Processes outgoing individuals in custody mail according to the U.S. Postal Service Regulations.
- Distributes mail of individuals in custody who have been discharge, paroled, or transferred.
- Processes incoming books and periodicals for Publication Review.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires one (1) year of related office experience.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department's zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
