Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Painter for the Kiley Developmental Center located in Waukegan, Illinois. Under general supervision, receives day-to-day guidance and assignments from the Chief Stationary Engineer, performs journey level tasks in the painting, decorating, and refinishing of building interiors and exteriors and other structures, equipment, and furnishings. Determines amount and type of materials needed; lifts and carries furniture, equipment supplies, etc., weighing up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Essential Functions

  • Receives day-to-day guidance and assignments form the Chief Stationary Engineer at the Kiley Developmental Center.
  • Prepares interior or exterior walls, metal surfaces, floors, ceiling, and equipment for painting.
  • Lifts and erects ladders or scaffolding.
  • Performs shop work.
  • Inspects work sites to determine amount and type of materials needed for painting projects.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program and two years of full-time journey level painter experience OR six years of full-time journey level painter experience.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to climb ladders and stairs and work from heights on ladders, scaffolding and platforms, stand for long periods of time and move equipment.
  • Requires ability to lift and move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Requires ability to work overhead and on knees.
  • Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: 7:00am-3:30pm; Monday-Friday; 30-minute unpaid lunch
