We invite qualified applicants to apply for the position of Retirement Benefits Representative Trainee in Field Services/Call Center at State Retirement Systems (SRS). This position receives training to promptly receive and accurately respond to a large volume of telephone inquiries and requests in an active call center from members/annuitants, survivors, and various others regarding retirement issues, which requires a basic knowledge of the Illinois Retirement Systems Reciprocal Act and the Illinois Pension Code. Receives training to analyze and determine when requests need to be routed or escalated to other division staff, initiate various claims and provide status when requested. Receives training to provide enrollment assistance and support to members. The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle a large amount of information, be detail oriented, and keep up with the productivity required for a call center. SRS is conveniently located on the west side of Springfield with free parking on-site.

Essential Functions

Targeted Title: Retirement Benefits Representative

  • Participates in agency sponsored training program, for a period of 6 to 12 months, to develop skills in receiving and responding to a large volume of telephone requests and inquiries from members, annuitants, survivors, and various others and to increase knowledge in assisting callers to understand retirement benefits and services.
  • Learns to utilize agency’s various databases and computer software programs to achieve proficiency in responding accurately to inquiries or requests and to document all calls and solutions.
  • Participates in training to develop an understanding of the various benefits statements and the knowledge to accurately explain these statements to members and various others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties listed above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of two years of college; or
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school and two years of related client service experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers experience working in a call center, answering phones, and obtaining information from and providing information to customers.
  • Prefers experience providing customer service.
  • Prefers ability to write correspondence with accuracy and grammatical correctness.
  • Prefers ability to learn services offered by State Retirement Systems to both members and retirees.

Work Hours: 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m., Monday - Friday, in the office on a full-time basis, no remote work option
