The Bridges and Structures Bureau is seeking to hire a Bridge Aesthetics Coordinator (Design Technician Specialist) that will be an essential part of the Bridge Project Development team in our Methods Unit. This position will develop aesthetic bridge details using sound architectural design and CAD detailing principles for the Bridges and Structures Bureau (BSB) and for consulting agencies that are working for the Department. Other duties include:

The Bridges and Structures Bureau is seeking to hire a Bridge Aesthetics Coordinator (Design Technician Specialist) that will be an essential part of the Bridge Project Development team in our Methods Unit. This position will develop aesthetic bridge details using sound architectural design and CAD detailing principles for the Bridges and Structures Bureau (BSB) and for consulting agencies that are working for the Department. Other duties include:
- Assist in the planning stages of projects impacted by aesthetics to help identify opportunities and clarify the impacts on bridge design for other internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform aesthetic design guideline interpretation and develop special construction details to comply with existing guidance.
- Use 3D modeling and other visualization techniques to convey ideas related to project enhancements and other non-standard details; includes development of extensive site and context models for use in visualizations for both internal and external project partners.
- Develop and maintain consistent aesthetics policy approach to projects and guide related efforts such as writing Requests for Proposals and Scopes of Work, as necessary, for special aesthetic projects that will be outsourced. Document and maintain issues related to aesthetics and provide instruction to the BSB, as well as other bureaus in the Department that are involved in aesthetics.
- Represent the BSB and the Iowa DOT in meetings with local city, county, and other municipal officials, public involvement groups and the general public regarding special projects with enhancement potential and/or design partnering requirements.
- Maintain the DOT's commitment to the Context Sensitive Solutions approach to project design as enumerated in Policy 500.02 on behalf of the BSB., and ensure compliance with recommendations related to infrastructure aesthetics and visual quality that are embedded in Federal transportation Acts and AASHTO specifications.

- Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent), and experience equal to eight years of full-time work in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, or right of way.
- All of the following (a and b):
- Six years of full-time work experience in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, or right of way; and
- A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, right of way, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, or construction inspection.
- All of the following (a and b):
- Six years of full-time work experience in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, or right of way; and
- A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of an accredited vocational program in engineering technology, design drafting, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, construction inspection, or cartography equals two years of full-time experience in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, right of way, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, or construction inspection.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Design Technician.
