Data Analyst Intern
The Iowa Department of Transportation Human Resource Bureau is seeking an intern who is interested in the world of data and data analytics! We’re looking for a student interested in working with large data sets for a variety of reasons including creating and supporting technical reports, supplying real-time data for decision-making, and general curiosity inquiries.
Position Duration and LocationDue to the priority focus of this role, we are looking for a student who can commit to at least a year-long internship and meet the in-office work hours requirement at the Iowa Department of Transportation Central Office, located in Ames, Iowa.
Hours and Schedule
During academic semesters, the number of hours worked and schedule are flexible to accommodate student requirements (classes, clubs, sports, etc.).
Full-time hours are available during any academic break period.
Through this internship, you will get hands-on experience through the responsibilities such as:

- Converting and analyzing hire data monthly, quarterly, andannually
- Researching and analyzing data on a variety of topics
- Producing monthly and quarterly data reports
- Managing the migration and entry of the agency’s hiring data tracking from our user system to our tracking system
- Advanced Excel skills - Ability to read, understand, and create macros
- Ability to read and write basic code (JavaScript, R, Python, or SQL preferred)
- Drive to do independent brainstorming, research, and problem-solving
- Efficient independent time management of tasks and projects
- Strong communication skills
