Do you love to be part of designing projects? Providing information, and technical support, and addressing the concerns and needs of both external and internal customers. Our customers may include, contractors, other local, state, and federal government persons within the Iowa Department of Transportation, utilities, news media, and the general public. This role plays an important role in the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mission is Making Lives Better Through Transportation . To accomplish our Mission, the person selected for this position will demonstrate actions and behaviors guided by the Iowa Department of Transportation’s five CORE values: Safety First, People Matter, Customer Focused, Servant Leadership, and Integrity Without Exception .
Location : Sioux City
Shift Requirements : Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM—4:30 PM. A flexible schedule is available. Telework is available after a period of time and in accordance with Iowa Department of Transportation policy on telework. Occasional overnight travel may be required.

As a Design Technician, you play a vital role in the District 3 Team. Some of your typical duties include:
Typical Duties
- Use Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software to create survey documents (includes items like land plats, acquisition plats, corner certificates, and monument preservation certificates, and displays of right of way).
- Gather and compile necessary records to delineate section lines, ownership lines and right-of-way lines.
- Establish proposed ROW lines, offsets, and acquisition areas using CADD.
- Organizes and preserves ROW and land surveying documents for future use and reference.
- Assist field crew, maintenance staff, construction staff, and district office staff with survey research related to ROW and construction.
Must have and maintain a minimum of a valid Class C Non-Commercial Operators License.

- Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent), and experience equal to six years of full-time work in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, or construction inspection.
- All of the following (a and b):
- Four years of full-time work experience in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, or construction inspection; and
- A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
- All of the following (a and b):
- Four years of full-time work experience in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, or construction inspection; and
- A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of an accredited vocational program in engineering technology, design drafting, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, construction inspection, or cartography equals two years of full-time experience.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Design Technician Associate.
