Job Description

The starting pay for this position is $103,646.40, and this position is eligible for a hiring incentive of over $3,800.00 and relocation benefit.

Does leading a dedicated team charged with the successful administration of construction contracts on Southwest Iowa highways and interstates interest you? We are excited to expand our District 4 leadership under the guidance of the District 4 Construction Engineer with the hire of a Resident Construction Manager (Transportation Engineer Manager) who will lead their team in the daily administration and operations of the construction office in Creston. You will have the opportunity to work with a professional leadership team focused on engineering and construction.

As a Resident Construction Manager, You Will Contribute To Your District's Effective Construction Administration; While Working On Exciting And Complex State Roadway Construction Projects. You Will Do This By

  • Providing consultation for internal and external customers in technical areas assigned
  • Administrating and supervision of construction contracts on primary routes
  • Maintaining effective staff and daily operations
  • Ensuring Contractors adhere to plans, specifications, and standards requirements
  • Responding to inquiries and resolving technical issues of department policies and regulations
  • Evaluating and managing accurate Traffic Control Standards
  • Reviewing and approving staff audits and as-built records
  • Acting as a liaison with Iowa Department of Transportation staff, government officials, contractors, media, and the public
  • Assisting the Office of Design by collecting field data and providing input to be used in plan preparation

Residency: District 4 / State of Iowa

  • You will have the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule and work location with the expectation of reporting to the Creston Resident Construction Office on an agreed-upon frequency dependent on business needs.
  • This position has the expected work hours of Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM - 4:30 PM. The hours may vary with some overtime and some overnight travel may be required.

Licensure

  • Must possess an active Iowa professional engineering license through the Iowa Professional Licensing Bureau – Engineering and Land Surveying Examination Board OR within 5 months of hire, obtain an Iowa professional engineering license through the Iowa Professional Engineering Bureau – Engineering and Land Surveying Examination Board.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa driver's license.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • All of the following (a and b):
  • Licensure as a professional engineer; and
  • Three years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering, one year of which must have included project management or lead work responsibilities.
  • All of the following (a, b, and c):
  • Licensure as a professional engineer; and
  • Two years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering, one year of which must have included project management or lead work responsibilities; and
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, structural, or transportation engineering; engineering management; or a field closely related to transportation engineering.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Prior to appointment, applicants must possess active licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board.
