The Iowa Department of Transportation, Local Systems Bureau, is seeking qualified applicants for an Engineering Intern position. The Local Systems Bureau is the liaison bureau to cities and counties for state and federal transportation programs. Our Local Systems Mission Statement is “ Our mission is to work with our transportation partners and provide guidance in the development and implementation of projects to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements. Only together can we and will we continue to improve the quality of transportation in Iowa.”
Desired Abilities
Shift: Days, Monday -Friday. Flex-time and some teleworking allowed with Supervisor approval.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Completion of at least two years in civil, construction, or structural engineering at an accredited four-year college or university with eligibility for senior status upon return to school.

- Assist with a variety of Federal-aid, Federal-aid Swap, and State-aid transportation programs
- Assist with the development, modification, and implementation of policies for LPA’s
- Assist with Project Field Reviews for LPAs
- Preparation for Meetings, including developing Power Point Presentations, Excel forms, etc
- Assist with data requests from citizens, media, attorneys, city/county/state engineers, etc
