Job Description
The Iowa Department of Corrections-Central Office is looking for a highly motivated leader to serve as a manager of the department’s Division of Investigative Services. This position will provide leadership and oversight for all departmental investigations, institutional critical incident reviews, and the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
This Public Service Manager 1 position supervises and manages the Iowa Department of Corrections’ Division of Investigative Services division, which is an independent bureau with a broad range of responsibility to include daily supervision and work evaluation of the investigation team of four (4) Investigator 3’s, statewide oversight of the DOC & CBC investigative process, oversight of the department’s Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) coordination, as well as multi-agency coordination and the development of goals and procedures for the department at a higher level of management.
This position is based in Des Moines and not eligible for remote work.

- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and experience equal to four years of full-time work in program administration, development, management, or operations.
- Eight years of full-time work experience in program administration, development, management, or operations.
- All of the following (a and b):
- Four years of full-time work experience work in program administration, development, management, or operations; and
- A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.
- All of the following (a, b, and c):
- Two years of full-time work experience work in program administration, development, management, or operations; and
- A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience; and
- A combination of a total of two years of graduate-level education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university course work in a public-service-related area (e.g., public or business administration, social work, law, education, engineering) equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Public Service Supervisor or comparable specific management-level position.
