Job Description
The Iowa Department of Transportation's Right of Way Bureau is made up of 44 full time employees that coordinate property acquisitions, utility relocations, and sell excess land purchased in connection with highway improvement projects throughout the state. Our bureau is looking to hire a Right of Way Agent 3 to join our team and help prepare payments and perform auditing functions for our real estate transactions and associated services.

Shift Requirements: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (flexible schedule), in-person with option for partial telework schedule. Occasional travel and overnights for project visits or conferences.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and three years of full-time experience equal to Right of Way Agent level work in real estate appraisal, property acquisition, real estate sales or management, or relocation assistance;
OR
an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting one year of the required full-time experience in real estate appraisal, property acquisition, real estate sales or management, or relocation assistance for one year (30 semester hours) of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years;
OR
an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting one year of experience in field-commissioned sales work, right of way engineering, other real estate or development support activity. engineering survey, highway construction inspection, or as the manager of a business for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years;
OR
an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting of satisfactory completion of any American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers Course, Society of Real Estate Appraiser Course, American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Course, or American Right of Way Association Course, or its equivalent for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education a maximum substitution of four years.

Duties
As a Right of Way Agent 3 in the Payment and Audit unit, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing payments for relocation assistance claims, consultant contract services, utility relocation reimbursements, damage claims, and eminent domain awards and costs.
- Providing periodic reports on right of way data as needed.
- Reviewing sale documents and assist in the disposal process for excess land.
- Auditing and review parcel information to ensure proper documentation prior to real estate closing activities.
- Serving as point of contact for the DOT's electronic records management system and verify right of way documents are entered and indexed accordingly.
- Maintaining ledgers detailing right of way transactions, including acquisitions, abandonments, sales, and easements granted.
