Position Summary
Elevator Attendant / Tour Guide (1 Temporary position available)
The Elevator Attendant / Tour Guide position is being established in collaboration with the Kansas State Historical Society (KSHS.)
The function for the Elevator Attendant / Tour Guide position is to operate the Statehouse cage elevator. The one temporary position will provide needed back-up and coverage during hours of operation, from 9 : 00am until 4 : 00pm during session and 9 : 00am until 3 : 00pm during non-session and Saturdays.
When not operating the caged elevator, the employee may fill in as a Tour Guide. It is important for the individual to have knowledge of Kansas history and the history of the State Capitol building.
Duties and responsibilities consist of the following : presentation of information on Kansas history and the Statehouse. Employee will need to have a good public speaking voice and the ability to present in front of large groups.
They will need to have a general affinity for Kansas history or the ability to learn information provided by the KSHS tour script for the Statehouse and through training.
All applicants should demonstrate that they can be good ambassadors for the city and the state. Applicant should show a degree of knowledge about other sites and attractions.
Being able to recommend restaurants, retail shops and where to find basic services, as well as provide directions to guests in the Statehouse and within the City of Topeka.
Guides may also staff the information desk when not giving tours. The duties will include answering the phone, checking on tour reservations and be able to direct guests around the Statehouse.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
