The Louisiana Department of Treasury has multiple vacancies located in the Unclaimed Property Division.
These vacancies may be filled as either a Probational or a Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty or Classified Temporary Appointment. These positions may require the selected applicant to serve a minimum probationary period of twelve (12) months. Current permanent status classified employees may be required to accept a probational appointment in lieu of promotion if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that these positions may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available. Additional vacancies may be filled from this announcement within 90 days of the closing date.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Accounting Specialist 1 or 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). There is a special entrance rate (SER) for this job series at Treasury:
Accounting Specialist 1: Starting rate of $15.43/hourly; $1,234.40/biweekly.
Accounting Specialist 2: Starting rate of $16.51/hourly; $1,320.80/biweekly.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Accounting Specialist 2 in that the duties are less complex.Serves as the first level of review and approval of financial transactions relative to collections, refunds, funds disbursement, cost accounting, expenditure control, budgeting, grants management, program analysis, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to ensure accuracy and completeness of calculations, legitimacy of transactions, and proper authorization.
Responsible for posting and journalizing a variety of small accounts or one or more large accounts of limited complexity.
Confers with the general public, patients, vendors, and employees to obtain information and answer questions on a wide variety of matters.
Verifies calculations to balance receipts and to determine taxes, discounts, deductions, and additional charges.
Locates and corrects journalizing and posting errors.
