LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Dental Assistant 1 or 2. These positions are in a Career Progression Group.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Dental Assistant 1 or 2) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). This is a Civil Service Position. There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $15.05 per hour for the Dental Assistant 2 title and $14.06 for the Dental Assistant 1 title with an additional $2.25 per hour worked available for candidates that hold a current DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) certification.
This position does not require applicants to take a Civil Service test.
Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required.

To provide chair side assistance to a licensed dentist and to instruct and assist dental students in four-handed dentistry.
Level of Work:
Experienced.
Supervision Received:
General from a licensed dentist, registered nurse, or other dental personnel of a higher level.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional over Dental Assistants of a lower level or dental students.
Location of Work:
Statewide.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Dental Assistant 1 by responsibility for performing journeyman level duties such as assisting in oral surgery and instructing dental students in four-handed dentistry.
Differs from Dental Assistant-Supervisor by absence of supervisory responsibility.
Performs all the duties of a Dental Assistant 1 and, in addition, performs the following specialized duties:
Serves as assistant to a dentist or oral surgeon during surgical procedures while patients are under local or general anesthetic.
Assists in the supervision and training of dental students and dental assistants.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments in clinics; monitors sterilizers to verify that they are working properly; sets up instrument trays for surgery.
Labels radiographs and maintains a filing system.
Observes patients in the recovery area after surgery.
Maintains supply levels in operating rooms, recovery rooms and dental laboratories.
