To provide physical effort to accomplish a variety of unskilled tasks or to inspect levees for signs of slides and washouts for proper drainage and elimination of various other causes of damage.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from other unskilled jobs by close supervision required in performing most assigned tasks.Cuts grass, weeds, trees, and brush; cleans culverts, drains, and ditches; moves, loads, and unloads materials, supplies, and equipment; removes obstructions from highway or premises; hauls or carries sand, lumber, asphalt, and cement; applies patching materials to highway surfaces; pours dirt, sand, and water into a mud jack and fills.
Operates a tractor to cut grass; cleans farm equipment.
Performs a wide variety of physical labor functions.
Waters livestock; washes and cleans livestock living quarters.
Directs traffic where road is under construction; washes and assists in servicing equipment.
Assists skilled workmen by carrying materials and tools or performing unskilled tasks such as mixing concrete or digging holes; moves furniture, oxygen tanks, or other heavy equipment at an institution or public building; moves ice to a storage place.
Digs post holes and ditches; does unskilled work in caring for seed beds and seedlings and in fighting wood fires with back pumps and rakes; mows lawns, trims shrubs, rakes grass, and trash; performs other simple tasks in connection with nursery, greenhouse, forest, farm, and/or ground work.
Chips, scales, cleans, and scrapes ironwork; assists in setting up or moving scaffolds.
AS A LEVEE INSPECTOR
Drives a vehicle over assigned area, inspecting levees for weak spots and other dangerous conditions; makes reports of conditions.
Polices levees to keep livestock and vehicles off the levees.
Supervises, as necessary, labor crews in emergency maintenance and repair work on levees.
Checks construction of fencing, installation of pipes, gas, and water lines for compliance with regulations of Department of Public Works and of the Levee Board.
Remains on constant duty during high water stages looking for washes, sand boils, and slides.
Directs draining and sacking to keep levees in good condition and to prevent overflows.
