What are the responsibilities and job description for the Professional Counselor 2-4 position at State of Louisiana?
NEDHSA is a designated approved National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site. Clinicians who work at NHSC-approved sites are eligible to apply to the NHSC Loan Repayment Program to pay off student loans.
- 2-year Full-Time Clinical Practice: NHSC will pay up to $50,000* for an initial 2 years of full-time clinical practice to clinicians.

This position may be filled by Probation, Promotion, Demotion, Lateral Transfer or Detail to Special Duty. Preference may be given to permanent classified employees of Northeast Delta Human Services Authority.
Applicants will be required to serve a probationary period of not less than 12 months and not more than 24.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice as a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) or a Provisional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (PLMFT) plus one year of counseling experience.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from the Professional Counselor 1 by the presence of greater independence and more complex caseloads.
Differs from the Professional Counselor 3 by the absence of responsibility for specialized caseloads and/or lead-worker duties.

Interviews patients/families in order to assess concrete and situational or supportive counseling needs, strengths and weaknesses, and to identify problems/needs to be addressed.
Consults with the treatment team on the condition of the client and participates in the decision-making process concerning the treatment plan to be followed for the client.
Manages a caseload by scheduling appointments, evaluating client progress in counseling sessions, and making recommendations to the treatment team.
Provides counseling and assists in the utilization of resources for patients/parents receiving services in a complexity of clinics and/or settings.
Develops and plans casework services and treatment for individuals with specialized problems in development, retardation, maladjustment or dependency.
Assists clients and families in understanding and participating in the diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and recommended treatment plans.
Serves as co-therapist with social workers or other professional counselors to perform case management or direct treatment services for a specialized complex caseload of clients with alcohol and drug abuse problems.
Serves as liaison and coordinator between clients, families, communities, and service providers.
