This vacancy is located in the Secure Forensic Facility (SFF)of Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish). ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services. This position will only be filled for nights.

This position may be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees), by Detail to Special Duty; or as a part-time WAE. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointed if selected for a full-time position.
SPECIAL ENTRANCE RATE (SER) OF PAY:
$1112.80-biweekly/$13.91-hourly
Premium Pay; paid for each hour worked:
Retention pay - $1.50 per hour worked
Facility Longevity Pay – starting at $1.00 per hour worked

Eighteen months of experience in providing behavioral health or developmentally disabled services, or psychiatric patient care; OR
Nine semester hours of college coursework in a social sciences field, education, social work, child guidance, or nursing; OR
One year of experience in providing behavioral health or developmentally disabled services or psychiatric patient care plus a Behavioral Health Aide Diploma from a vocational technical college with an approved curriculum from the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.Function of Work:
To perform responsible non-professional nursing support work involving direct patient care and the implementation of a variety of planned therapeutic techniques.
Level of Work:
Advanced.
Supervision Received:
General from a professional nurse, physician or other medical personnel of a higher level.
Supervision Exercised:
Lead worker over Psychiatric Aides 1, 2.
Location of Work:
State health care facilities and rehabilitation centers.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Psychiatric Aide 2 by the implementation of a variety of planned therapeutic techniques.Provides emotional/physical support as indicated based on knowledge of the patients' psychiatric disorder, communication skills, and behavior.
Communicates to nursing staff all verbal interactions with patients.
Maintains appropriate therapeutic staff - patient relationship and utilizes knowledge of therapeutic techniques.
Performs specialized patient care activities, such as range of motion, postmortem care, isolation techniques and observation of restrained patients.
Serves as lead worker over Psychiatric Aides of a lower level.
Performs all duties of lower-level psychiatric aides.
