Main Purpose of Job
Direct and supervise all Veteran Cemetery Equipment Operators (VCEO) and Veteran Cemetery Caretakers (VCC) on how to perform their daily work duties to maintain the cemetery grounds to the National Cemetery Administration (NCA) standards. To provide internment services and perpetual care of burial sites for eligible Maryland Veterans and their dependents and to give each and every interment a dignified burial.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:�� Completion of the Sixth grade. Experience: Two years of experience in grounds keeping or buildings and grounds maintenance work. Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military�service experience as a non-commissioned officer in general maintenance classifications or cemetery caretaking specialty codes in the general maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.�
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One year of supervisory experience in State Government. Experience in supervision of grounds and maintenance workers.� Experience in cemetery maintenance and equipment.� Experience with the application of fertilizers and pesticides.� Experience in the maintenance of manual and power grounds keeping equipment.
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
This recruitment is limited to current employees of the Department of Veterans and Military Families (DVMF).
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. 2. Employees in this classification may be required to apply and store pesticides. Such employees shall use or apply pesticides in compliance with Maryland State pesticide regulations and licensing requirements.
