Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor, (MD Labor), Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Unemployment Insurance Benefits Associate III (Internal Only.) This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement.

Towson, Maryland (Baltimore County) Salisbury, Maryland (Wicomico County) College Park, Maryland (Prince George’s County) Cumberland, Maryland (Allegany County)

POSITION DUTIES

�Request and process wages from other states to ensure eligibility of claimants employed in multiple�states. �Process outgoing wages to be used in other state unemployment insurance claims. �Communicate with other states via the UIMAIL-ICON Network when necessary to handle complex interstate claims. �Obtain and process wage and separation information for federal civilian and ex-militaryclaimants. �Ensure prompt and accurate payment of benefits by reviewing claim history to identify any incidents of unemployment insurance fraud. �Identify, investigate, and resolve problems related to claims for unemployment insurance benefits to keep individual claims up to date. �Review the information provided by claimants and employers to ensure that the correct employers are associated with the unemployment claim. �Verify the accuracy of the claim once the filing process is complete. �Process alternate base period affidavits and determine if a wage dispute is needed. �Request and review dependent documentation for claimants requesting dependent allowance. �Review returned mail and resend if applicable. �Respond to verification requests from claimants and outside agencies to verify receipt of unemployment insurance benefits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: Three Years of general clerical or call center experience working with the public directly. Notes: 1. Applicants may substitute general clerical or call center experience, for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for one year of education. 2. Applicants may substitute 30 credit hours at an accredited college or university for one year experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants�who possess the following preferred qualification(s).�Include clear and specific information on your application regarding�your qualifications. At least six (6) months experience processing unemployment insurance claims. Customer Service experience

Personnel employed in this classification will have access to federal tax information and must undergo a state and FBI criminal background check as a condition of employment. All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of�Unemployment Insurance (MD Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MD Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
