Introduction

*Previous applicants are still being considered* The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland’s $46 billion insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers’ and insurance professionals’ compliance with State law.� Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and other public and private entities.� � The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners, and/or property insurance.� Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law. The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually. � * This is a Special Appointment position that serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

POSITION DUTIES

The MIA is recruiting to fill two Enforcement Officer I, Title positions�in the Title Unit of the Insurance Fraud and Producer Enforcement Division. �An Enforcement Officer I, Title investigates and analyzes complaints involving title insurance and casualty insurance producers and agencies. This positon conduct interviews, and if appropriate, prepares administrative charges and testifies at hearings.� The Enforcement Officer I, Title will also review and analyze audit reports and contact producers and underwriters for explanations of findings listed on the reports as required. � The Enforcement Officer I, Title participates with other investigators or market conduct examiners in developing methods of investigations or examinations, as it pertains to title insurance producers. The incumbent in this position must exercise sound judgment and discretion in conducting interviews, possess good investigative techniques, and prepare compile comprehensive and logical written summaries. The Enforcement Officer I, Title must be available to travel to interview insurance producers as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university. � Experience:�Five years of experience as a title producer or law enforcement officer; or five years of experience conducting investigations, financial audits, or compliance reviews that involve obtaining and analyzing information and preparing written reports of findings may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education. � Note: Additional experience as a title producer or law enforcement officer; or five years of experience conducting investigations, financial audits, or compliance reviews that involve obtaining and analyzing information and preparing written reports of findings may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s).�Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications. � Possession of accounting degree and/or certification � Experience with obtaining and analyzing bank statements and performing account reconciliations
