The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. POSITION DUTIES
The main purpose of this position is to assist the Director of Correctional Training by providing direct supervision to the Captains and to act on behalf of the Director as needed. The incumbent must be familiar with all training programs and operations of correctional agencies and institutions.
Coordination and oversight of in-service, entry-level, firearms and field training, as well as certification for all institutions throughout the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (Department).
Coordinate with Training Directors, Regional Coordinators, and Program Managers to develop and provide training programs that address Departmental needs, while maintaining professional training for all Department employees. Maintains familiarity with the certification program approval process, responsible for approving programs, and maintains and oversees adjunct instructors for In-Service and Field Training programs.
Coordination and oversight of the mandated, statewide Implicit Bias Awareness training initiative, ensuring all line staff and first line supervisors in the Departmental receive the training.
Schedule and coordinate training unit meetings at the direction of the Director to accomplish stated goals and efficiency of effort and to accomplish the required training mandates.
Liaison with local government corrections managers and trainers to assist them with their training needs and assist in developing training as needed.
Represent the MPCTC Executive Director, MPCTC Deputy Director, or the Director of Correctional Training at meetings and public events as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, political science, public administration, public policy or related field.
Experience: At least five years of experience working in the field of adult corrections. At least three years of experience in a supervisory capacity.

Experience in the training field and familiarity with correctional training standards as defined by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions.

Good communication and organizational skills and be comfortable addressing large groups of individuals.

- Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
