The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. Main Purpose of Job

The Capital Construction Engineer II performs an advanced level of work in the field of building design, renovation, construction and repairs. This position provides guidance to multidisciplinary teams of registered engineers and architects to accomplish the effective and efficient handling of applicable projects. This incumbent must be a Professional Engineer who will be responsible for facility program / project review. Attend meeting with selected architects and engineers, assist with providing projects scheduled and monitoring, design review, reconciliation of design problems, review of changes made during the program / projects and final acceptance. Assigns priorities and schedules work to be done. Provide guidance and direction to resolve equipment repair and replacement.

POSITION DUTIES

Collaborates with engineering teams to design systems for construction or maintenance projects. Reviews blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to ensure proper system design and adherence to codes. Overseeing the installation of systems, equipment, ensuring proper procedures are followed. Test and commission systems to ensure they meet the required performance and safety standards.

Performing system troubleshooting and correcting any issues. Inspect electrical systems to identify faults, failures, or areas that require maintenance. Perform or supervise repairs, replacements, or upgrades of electrical components and systems. Implementing preventive maintenance programs to minimize system downtime.

Support DPSCS correction maintenance staff, contractors, to ensure project timelines are met. Coordinate activities between various teams on-site to ensure smooth progress of installation. Ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations to protect workers and equipment. Conduct tests and inspections on systems and equipment to ensure proper operation. Record and analyze test results, troubleshooting issues, and recommending improvements. Travel to all Correctional Institution sites to perform duties, which may require spending extended periods away from the office. Work in varying environments, including construction sites, factories, or remote locations. Coordinates leave and staff coverage of unit or division.

Maintain accurate records of work performed, including installation, testing, and maintenance activities. Write reports on project progress, system performance, and issues encountered. Keep project plan and weekly briefing current. Interact with warden, commissioners, project managers, and other stakeholders to provide updates and address concerns. Offer technical support and recommendations to ensure systems meet the expectations of the warden and commissioners. Implements new regulations and policies as directed by upper management. Ensure all work complies with national and local codes and industry standards. Stay updated on changes in regulations and technologies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : A Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience : Three years of experience as a design or project Engineer or Architect for large-scale multi-year construction projects.

Notes :

1. A Master's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.

2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Civil Engineer Corps or Engineering Aid classifications or Construction Engineering Technician, Technical Engineer, or Civil or Combat Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  • Experience working with diverse populations, including incarcerated individuals
  • Ability to develop an emergency action plan and execute it successfully
  • Experience resolving emergency repairs with short timelines

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
