Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

This position provides technical support to the Natural Resources Police for their Law Enforcement Applications and related hardware, as well as processes and disseminates body worn camera footage requests to various criminal justice agencies and States Attorney’s offices. The work in this classification involves direct contact with representatives of various criminal justice agencies. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a Natural Resources Police Sergeant. Employees may be required to work on evenings and weekends, and holidays and may be subject to call ins. Employees in this classification do not supervise but will provide guidance and advice to other personnel within the unit, as well as train and guide personnel with less experience and/or knowledge in both body worn camera related hardware and the dissemination of body worn camera footage.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources, Support Services (Records Division) in Annapolis, MD is currently accepting applications for a classification). This position is the implementation arm of the Department’s Records Division. It manages all aspects of the day-to-day body worn camera footage and dissemination of information. It manages all aspects of the day-to-day technical field supervisory staff responsible for maintaining and upgrading the Department of Natural Resources statewide public safety radio communication networks.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for processing body worn camera footage requests from various criminal justice Agencies and States Attorney’s Offices.
  • Responsible for assisting with the processing of Public Information Act (PIA) requests of body worn camera footage. Aids higher level administrators related to the response of (PIA) and “shields” body worn camera footage as required by law prior to release.
  • Travels to both field and office locations throughout the State of Maryland to provide hardware support for body worn camera systems. To include but not limited to battery exchanges, unit replacement, upload hardware maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Responsible for maintaining and monitoring the daily uploads of body worn camera footage by Natural Resources Police officers into the cloud-based server and associated software. • Responsible for providing technical assistance to Natural Resources Police officers on the proper use and maintenance of body worn camera systems.
  • Provides training to Natural Resources Police officers in both the field and classroom settings on the proper use of body worn camera systems and upload procedures.
  • Assists with law enforcement records maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate

Experience: Five years of administrative staff or professional work

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher-ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of experience formal training or professional experience in computer software and or hardware.
  • Three years of experience with video editing software.
  • Three years of experience working with public safety personnel, fire/EMS, or police.
  • Three years of experience with MD’s public information act and procedures for the dissemination of information.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
