We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of Superintendent III , so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!
This position will take charge of managing and supervising the daily operations of the juvenile facility, ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of youth and staff under your care. You will also ensure that all operations align with departmental and divisional policies and standards, maintaining a structured and compliant environment.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute in various ways, including :
Education : High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education, as required by Correctional Training Commission regulations.
Experience : Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in facility management or operations, including at least three (3) years of supervisory or managerial experience in a juvenile detention, residential youth treatment program, or similar institutional setting.
Note : An Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, social sciences, or behavioral sciences may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required general experience. A Bachelor’s degree may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required general experience.

- Strategizing for success : Developing and implementing both short- and long-term plans to optimize resource utilization and ensure program goals are met with precision.
- Leading and mentoring staff : Guiding subordinate supervisors through regular feedback and performance reviews to build a cohesive, high-performing team.
- Building a strong organizational foundation : Assessing and implementing effective organizational structures and staffing solutions to meet the facility’s operational demands.
- Championing professional growth : Identifying and addressing staff training needs, equipping your team with the latest knowledge and tools to excel in their roles and embrace industry advancements.
- Fostering community and stakeholder collaboration : Acting as a liaison with managers, officials, and community partners, cultivating partnerships and enhancing public relations to support the Center’s mission.
