The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking a Fiscal Accounts Technician II, so come join our team and contribute to the financial integrity and operational success of DJS!
In this pivotal role, you will play a critical part in managing financial transactions by processing vendor invoices, ensuring approvals are verified, confirming the receipt of goods and services, and maintaining compliance with state fiscal policies. Accuracy and timeliness are key, as you will reconcile posted invoices within three days by reviewing and comparing reports across agency and fiscal control systems. To enhance efficiency, you will develop, maintain, and update automated spreadsheets that track and document financial transactions, ensuring all necessary information is readily available. Additionally, you will prepare and organize financial documents for submission to the State Comptroller's Office, ensuring each document is accurately classified and recorded.
As a trusted resource for financial operations, you will provide technical guidance to agency staff, advising on fiscal policies, procedures, and best practices to maintain compliance and accuracy. You will oversee the reconciliation of Student Funds on a biweekly basis, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to established guidelines while processing expenditures. Your responsibilities will extend to reviewing financial statements from vendors and agencies, verifying their accuracy and compliance for audits and financial reporting. To maintain fiscal integrity, you will identify and correct coding errors within PCA allocations and appropriations by processing journal entries and budget modifications. Additionally, your expertise in financial analysis will support budget planning by assessing historical and current budget data, identifying trends, and projecting future financial needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One (1) year of experience reconciling agency accounting systems to fiscal control systems or developing automated spreadsheets, ledgers and reports using accounting software packages or identifying budget trends and recommending budget realignments.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) year of work experience utilizing automated accounting system(s) is highly desired.
- One (1) year of working experience in accounts payables is highly desired.
- Six (6) months of experience reviewing/auditing numerical and/or accounting documents for errors (spreadsheets, time cards, credit card statements, etc.).
