POSITION DUTIES

Are you looking for an opportunity to join an exciting team of professionals and make a contribution to a major modernization project for the taxpayers of Maryland? Located in downtown Annapolis, the Comptroller of Maryland, Revenue Administration Division is seeking to fill an entry level, IT Functional Analyst trainee position within our Project management office.

This position will, with the guidance of lead workers and managers, learn the coordination of system design, learn testing and implementation for hardware and software application upgrades; learn to promote overall business processes optimization; learn to develop queries and analyzing data; and assisting with annual testing of the tax processing software.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a keen attention to detail, eager to learn, with knowledge of state and federal tax returns, uses Microsoft software, thrives in a fast paced environment, proficiency in English; written and spoken, in order to correspond with technical customers (programmers, business partners and supervisors), has some experience in an IT environment and is an effective team collaborator in all aspects of daily work.

This position is a hybrid, in office/teleworking position based on the needs of the office and completion of the probationary period. Overtime may be necessa ry.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Four years of experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database or other applications.

  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Information Technology or other related field with specific coursework in the structure and use of automated information systems for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Information Technology or other related field with specific coursework in the structure and use of automated information systems for each year up to four years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and two years of experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database or other applications for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at www.naces.org/members.html .

Desired Or Preferred Qualifications

  • Some experience analyzing and troubleshooting application problems and making recommendations for c orrection
  • Experience with the MS suite of products
  • Intermediate proficiency with Excel
  • Some experience in creating and using test plans for User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Some experience gathering the needs of the business user and working with technical programmer analysts in the design, testing and implementation of software applications to meet those needs
  • Good verbal and written skills and experience communicating with technical customers (programmers, business partners and supervisors)
  • Ability to work overtime when required including before and after regular business hours and some weekends, and to work the hours specified in the interview

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Must be willing and able to work Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with a one hour lunch or 8:30 - 5:00 p.m. with a half hour lunch. May be requested to work evenings, Saturdays and State Holidays during peak periods.
