The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. GRADE
POSITION DUTIES
Responsible for supervising facility management personnel while performing various maintenance and housekeeping tasks within the physical plant of the Public Safety Education Training Center (PSETC), including landscaping operations and responsible for general administrative correspondence required for procurement, vendor contracts and annual reporting requirements.
Supervises subordinate staff which includes identifying work projects and repairs needed, assigning / prioritizing daily work orders, review and inspect work completed to meet standards. Schedules and delegates work assignments. Performs routine performance evaluations of staff.
Completes general repairs, construction projects and various maintenance repair requests as assigned by work orders. Maintains equipment preventive maintenance repairs and system repair schedules / records.
In the absence of Assistant Facility Manager or housekeeping personnel, responsible for completing general housekeeping tasks as assigned by work orders, performing janitorial service as needed to facility buildings and dormitory rooms.
Prepares requests for purchase, rental or contractual services. Contact vendors to request cost estimates for parts and / or services. Compares cost of completed jobs with original cost estimates and reviews work performed for approval of invoices. Prepares requisitions for supplies necessary for maintenance and housekeeping operations.
Monitors contracts for vendors performing repairs, maintenance, construction or other related services to PSTEC.
Inspects shop and work areas for adherence to safety, sanitary, and security regulations. Provide direction for corrective action to ensure all work areas are maintained in meeting safety standards.
Completes annual reports for Capital and Critical Maintenance Projects, Asbestos Safety, Hazardous Materials / MOSH and other related facility maintenance reports. Complete annual in-service training for certifications as required. Prepares annual requests for critical maintenance and capital construction requests.
Responds to emergencies while fulfilling the rotational on-call schedule and other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Eighth grade.
Experience : Eight years of experience in stationary engineering, building maintenance or building construction trades including seven years of responsibility assigning, reviewing and approving the work of others and disciplining, evaluating the performance of and recommending the hiring, firing and promoting of others.
Note : Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal / Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance specialty codes in the utility systems repair field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
One year of experience supervising subordinate staff, assigning / prioritizing daily work orders, reviewing / inspection of work
completed to meet standards and completing routine performance evaluations of staff.
One year of experience in completing construction projects and work orders.
One year of experience maintaining equipment, doing preventive maintenance repairs and system repair schedules / records.
Completion of a certified apprenticeship program from a trade school in Carpentry, HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification series may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
