Main Purpose of Job

This full-time contractual position, which functions as a Mental Health Program Coordinator for the MDH Behavioral Health Administration, provides professional administrative staff work for the Office of Suicide Prevention's functions. It will also provide communication and technical assistance, support to external stakeholders, and data management and evaluation through the management of the monthly newsletter and meetings with Suicide Prevention Coalitions within each jurisdiction.

This position will provide professional administrative staff support for the Suicide Fatality Review, the Governor’s Commission on Suicide Prevention, and training development. This support will include involvement in outreach and awareness activities and community training. The position will also manage and evaluate data for mental health promotion and community engagement activities.

The scope of the work requires the position to engage with local jurisdictions, community organizations, and the federal government. This involves collecting and disseminating initiatives, events, conferences, and summits to Statewide partners.

This position is eligible for Hybrid Telework which is subject to change as necessitated by operations and customer-focused demands.

Minimum Qualifications

Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience : Two years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes : 1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Desired Or Preferred Qualifications

The desired candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in Health Science, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Public Policy, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or Sociology, and experience in administrative roles within public health, mental health, or a related field.

The desired candidate should also possess expertise in the following:

  • Adapting suicide prevention and mental health promotion best practices to enhance cultural responsiveness
  • Building and maintaining professional relationships to foster community partnerships and collaborations
  • Evaluating, analyzing, researching, and developing social media, programs, and new initiatives, primarily at the state level, focusing on statewide suicide prevention programming and mental health promotion initiatives

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

Benefits

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
