MSD, Columbia Campus, 8169 Old Montgomery Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043
Main Purpose of Job
Provide administrative support to the Principal of the Elementary Department.
POSITION DUTIES
Manage the office of the Elementary Department in the daily operations of the program. In addition to supporting the Elementary School Principal, this position serves students, families, teachers, staff, and visitors. Duties include assisting in maintaining program safety and records, tracking and monitoring student attendance, making phone calls, writing letters, tracking and collecting progress reports and report cards, and monitoring and maintaining student and staff well-being. This position will also be involved with arranging school functions, preparing and proofreading the Principal’s communications, and coordinating the Principal’s schedule. This position will collaborate closely with the Campus Chief Educational Programs Officer’s office and with other programs in the school. May include communication with outside state and local agencies. May be asked to assume other duties as assigned by the Elementary School Principal or the Campus Chief Educational Programs Officer.
Minimum Qualifications
Education : High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Fluency in English and American Sign Language required.
Experience : Four years performing office, secretarial type, or clerical work involving typing duties.

Desired Or Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a school setting or clerical work preferred. Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)

- Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
