  • The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS), the Massachusetts state public defender agency, is seeking an Infrastructure Administrator who will be responsible for maintenance of hardware and software of the Agency data centers, backup and replication, and the Azure and Microsoft 365 cloud environment. AGENCY OVERVIEW CPCS is the state agency in Massachusetts responsible for providing an attorney when the state or federal constitution or a state statute requires the appointment of an attorney for a person who cannot afford to retain one. The agency provides representation in criminal, delinquency, youthful offender, family regulation, guardianship, mental health, sexually dangerous person, and sex offender registry cases, as well as in appeals and post-conviction and post-judgment proceedings related to those matters. The clients we represent are diverse across every context imaginable and bring many unique cultural dimensions to the matters we address. This reality creates a critical need for CPCS staff to be culturally competent and able to work well with people of different races, ethnicities, genders and / or sexual orientation identities, abilities, and limited English proficiency, among other protected characteristics. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW The Information Technology Division enables and enhances the delivery of the Agency’s mission to serve our clients through the creation of innovative digital products and the support of staff, private counsel, and vendor partners. We accomplish these objectives by providing application development and infrastructure services focusing on client success and strategic IT service delivery both as technology leaders and partners in the fight for equal justice and zealous advocacy on behalf of our clients. POSITION OVERVIEW The Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for maintenance of hardware and software of the Agency data centers, backup and replication, and the Azure and Microsoft 365 cloud environment. This position will work to ensure the Agency hybrid cloud environment runs securely, efficiently and effectively and will identify new functionality that can be leveraged by the Agency. The Infrastructure Administrator is also responsible for resolving third-level support requests and will advise other Helpdesk staff when needed. This position is expected to travel to various offices around the Commonwealth. Travel is estimated up to 30% of working hours, and there is also the requirement to participate in the regular, on-call weekend coverage rotation cycle. This position reports to the Director of Infrastructure. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Managing and maintaining hybrid cloud and data center operations and design, including SME and hands-on design, build, maintenance, and physical security of server / data center infrastructure;
  • Managing and maintaining Azure / Microsoft 365;
  • Managing automated end-user management and data center tools;
  • Ensuring effective operations of infrastructure including uptime and availability;
  • Managing and maintaining VOIP systems and fax services (analog & virtual);
  • Managing enterprise e-mail and EDR applications;
  • Assisting in creating technical documentations and training materials
  • Providing mentorship, problem resolution, and assisting with the training of other IT support personnel; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS The ideal candidate will be a person who is both highly organized and detail oriented, and yet enjoys interacting with people in a friendly work environment and will take satisfaction from working in an agency whose commitment is to protecting the fundamental legal rights of indigent persons. The successful candidate must have :
  • Associates’ degree in Information Technology and Information Systems, Computer Science, Systems & Network Administration, or related degree or an equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience;
  • 3 years’ experience supporting and implementing technology in a medium-sized organization;
  • 3 years’ experience managing a distributed infrastructure, data center and server operations;
  • 3 years infrastructure design, implementation, and support;
  • 3 years’ experience managing multiple projects and priorities;
  • 3 years’ experience working on multi-disciplinary teams;
  • 3 years designing and building hybrid cloud environments;
  • 3 years’ managing Azure and Microsoft 365 Admin Center;
  • 3 years’ experience managing redundant data center environments;
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to use a reliable personal vehicle for transportation on a reimbursable basis. Travel is estimated at 30% within the Commonwealth; and,
  • Access to with home internet access sufficient to work remotely. QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • A Bachelors or advanced degree in Informational Technology and Information Systems, Computer Science, Systems & Network Administration, or related degree is preferred;
  • Strong communication, customer service, and attention to detail;
  • Advanced trouble shooting skills to proactively address potential issues and identify new, relevant technologies;
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently;
  • Ability to work independently while taking initiative and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and supervisors, as well as with external service providers;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely. Able to communicate effectively with all staff within the organization and with stakeholders outside the organization;
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope and timeline;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to exercise considerable judgment and discretion;
  • Able to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality work.
