This position serves as the Accountant Manager for the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) within the Michigan State Police (MSP) and provides first line supervision to the members of the CVED Budget and Accounting Section. The position manages and oversees all accounting, budgeting, grant accounting, purchasing, and administrative support processes related to CVED’s $37 million budget. CVED’s accounting includes diverse funding sources which include federal, state restricted, local, and general fund revenues. Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations of the state of Michigan governmental accounting, budgeting, grant accounting, business administrative, and SIGMA Financial, HRM, and Business Intelligence programs is integral to the position. This position is required to perform all duties in a bias free manner.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.
Experience
Four years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant or an Auditor, including two years equivalent to an Accountant P11 or Auditor P11, or one year equivalent to an Accountant 12 or Auditor 12.
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant Certification may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience.
OR
Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.
This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.
