Responsible for the food, quartermaster, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration, automotive and hardware warehousing operations for a level I correctional facility. It is the function of this position to ensure adequate supplies are ordered, stored, recorded and issued to ensure adequate supplies, materials and equipment are available to staff in the performance of their duties and responsibilities, and to assist as needed in the prisoner store, quartermaster and prisoner property operations of the facility. This position is also required to meet and comply with MIOSHA, Public Health standards and MDOC policies and procedures.

The Storekeeper 7 supervises prisoner work crews inside an outside the secure perimeter on a regular basis to carry out the assigned duties. 
 The Storekeeper 5 and Storekeeper E6 are not responsible for prisoner supervision to carry out the assigned duties.

Storekeeper E6 
One year of experience in the storage, handling and distribution of materials, or in the operation of mail handling and sorting machines, and related equipment. 

Storekeeper 7 
Three years of experience in the storage, handling and distribution of materials, or in the operation of mail handling and sorting machines, and related equipment, including two years equivalent to the Storekeeper E6.

The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation. 
 
 New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification.  All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.

Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.

The Department of Corrections will not hire individuals who have been convicted of a felony or who have felony charges pending, in accordance with Public Act 140 of 1996.

The position is eligible for $0.40/hour pay premium.
