Job Summary
This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul. The position will have the flexibility to telecommute, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to complete a telework agreement. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office or field one day per pay period.
This position provides technical expertise in the development, preservation, and safety of aviation in Minnesota. Duties include inspecting and licensing airports and commercial aviation operators; enforcing Minnesota Statutes and Rules pertaining to aeronautics; organizing and conducting safety and educational seminars for pilots and airport operators; and providing pilot services in single and multi-engine aircraft.
In-state travel is required up to 50% of the time; this includes some in-state overnight travel.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Three years professional experience in any of the following:
- Experience in the airfield operations of an airport (e.g., Airfield Safety, Landside Operations, Airside Operations, Fixed Based Operator, Aviation Safety Inspector etc.).
- Providing airport planning, construction consultation of airport development or construction of an airport.(e.g., Project Manager, Planner or consultant for a firm that specializes in airports).
- Served as a Chief Flight Instructor, Assistant Chief Flight Instructor or Certified Flight Instructor for a CFR Title 14, Part 141, or Part 61 Flight School.
- Experience in aircraft maintenance, production, manufacturing operations or the operation of a business affiliated with aircraft.
- Providing consultation on aviation or airport data management for the military, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a contractor for the FAA, or a state agency (e.g., dispatch services, air traffic control).
- Experience as a professional Pilot for the Military, CFR Title 14, Part 121, Part 135, or Part 91.
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in aviation or airport management may substitute for six months of professional experience.
Required Certifications:
- Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument rating or airline Transport Pilot Certificate.
- Current First-Class Medical Certificate by the time of appointment.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations including CFR Title 14, Part 77.
- Knowledge of Minnesota statutes and Minnesota rules relating to Aeronautics.
