The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Home – Minneapolis campus is a 24/7 nursing facility on a 53-acre campus. We are seeking a full-time Building Maintenance Supervisor for our Physical Plant department. This position will co-supervise physical plant staff and oversees the maintenance team.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Prioritize and assign preventative maintenance, work orders, and projects to staff to ensure operational efficiency
- Supervise, lead, and train staff to ensure adequate staffing needs are met based on facility needs, while meeting collective bargaining agreements, safety, emergency, State and MDVA policies, licensing, regulations, and procedures.
- Procure contracted services to ensure objective specifications and projects/bids are met for quality, timeliness, and completion
- Manage departmental operations budget, supplies, and materials for cost-efficiency and fiscal accountability

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Work Hours: Monday – Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, subject to flexibility outside of normal working hours in emergencies and/or operational needs. May include weekends, evenings, holidays, and being on-call.

Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position:
- Valid Minnesota Class D driver's license
- One year of supervisory OR two years of lead experience directing the work of trades, construction or maintenance staff
Experience must demonstrate the following:
- Skill in project management, facilities management, construction management or business management, including developing and managing project plans, contract specifications, budgets and financial reports
- Extensive knowledge of building and safety codes and requirements
- Considerable knowledge of OSHA and the occupational hazards of building construction
- Computer skills (e.g., word-processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, calendar, internet) sufficient to produce reports and correspondences
- Human relations and conflict resolution skills sufficient to communicate and resolve maintenance problems and work in conjunction with management to coordinate campus-wide activities related to overall operations in a professional manner
- Ability to prioritize time and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of supervisory experience directing the work of trades, construction or maintenance staff
- Three years of lead work experience directing the work of trades, construction or maintenance staff
- Experience in project management, facilities management, construction management or business management
- Experience using an electronic work system software

This position requires successful completion of the following:
