Job Summary

The Chief Medical Officer is a member of the Healthcare Division Executive Team and serves as the physician responsible for the overall care and clinical practice carried out at all Minnesota Department of Veteran Affairs (MDVA) facilities. The Medical Director applies clinical and administrative skills to guide the facilities in providing care. Provides direction to the Healthcare Division to identify medical services priorities and clinical best practice standards, quality initiatives and best practice implementation within Minnesota Veterans Home (MVH) facilities.

The incumbent of this position will require traveling to all Minnesota Veterans Homes and being onsite depending on business needs. The Minnesota Veterans home locations are : Preston, Luverne, Fergus Falls, Montevideo, Bemidji, Silver Bay, Hastings, and Minneapolis.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of clinical experience as a practicing physician.
  • An active, unrestricted Minnesota licensure as a Medical Doctor.
  • A valid unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.
  • The ability to be credentialed at the Federal Veterans Administration at time of hire or within probationary period.
  • An active up to date Basic Life Support (BLS) provider qualification.
  • Board Certification in a primary care specialty such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Geriatrics.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) / Medicare requirements, healthcare policy and state and federal regulations.
  • Skills in electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical management software such as Epic, Cerner, PointClickCare (PCC) or other relevant systems.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in geriatric care, hospice and palliative care, physical disabilities, chemical dependency, mental illness, and disorders such as traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or related.
  • Specialized certifications such as Certified Medical Director (CMD), Geriatrics, or board certification in Hospice and Palliative Care.
  • Master of Public Health (MPH) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on healthcare management.
  • Experience in a State or Federal Government healthcare setting (e.g., Veterans Affairs, state-run health systems, or military healthcare).
  • Experience in a senior leadership role (e.g., Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer) in a healthcare setting, preferably in long-term care or veterans' services.

    This position requires successful completion of the following :
