Job Summary

In this position you will provide technical work in planning, installing, configuring, and maintaining electronic equipment, software, hardware, and networks for communication, automation, safety and security for the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF)-Stillwater.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide electronic systems support of building and perimeter security equipment and communications equipment and systems. This involves assisting in the specification and selection of electronic equipment and systems, and installing, configuring/calibrating, maintaining and repairing electronic equipment/systems.
  • Maintain and provide systems support to the Physical Plant Local Area Network (LAN) for building automation, security, and communication systems.
  • Install, repair, and maintain all electronic/mechanical control of door access systems including Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with integration of door access, door alarms, camera call up, intercom, cell utilities and elevators.
  • Establish and maintain an electronic repair shop complete with necessary test equipment, tools, and electronic components and supplies so electronic equipment problems can be corrected immediately.
  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program for existing equipment so that unexpected breakdowns are kept to a minimum.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet one (1) of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

  • Completion of a two-year vocational/technical program (e.g. Associate in applied science degree) or higher in electronics technology or a related field OR
  • Registration as an unlicensed individual under the Minnesota Electrical Act and Minnesota Rules 3800.3550 or 3800.3525 OR
  • Possession of a Power Limited Technician License OR
  • Possession of a current Minnesota Class A Journeyworker Electrician License OR
  • Possession of a current Minnesota Class A Master Electrician License

Please note: If the successful candidate does not currently hold one of the above listed licenses or is not registered as an unlicensed individual under the Minnesota Electrical Act, they will be required to register as an unlicensed individual prior to hire and will perform work in accordance with M.S. 326B.33.

Applicants meeting the above minimum qualification(s) will be further assessed on the following:

  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, test equipment, and tools used to construct, install, calibrate, configure, troubleshoot, repair and maintain complex electronics equipment sufficient to assure safe, efficient and reliable equipment operation.
  • Basic knowledge of computer network administration sufficient to install and configure computer hardware and software; troubleshoot hardware, software and network problems; and assign user passwords and appropriate levels of access.
  • Knowledge of the operation and servicing for a variety of electronic equipment and systems located in resident and non- resident areas of the facility: CATV, CCTV, Telephone Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Perimeter Alarms, Computer Networks, Electronic Media, Intercoms and PA’s, and Metal Detection
  • Skills in using a personal computer and software tools to troubleshoot electronics equipment and computer network problems for building, security and communication systems.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot, identify and correct problems with computer software and hardware and electronics equipment through computer diagnosis and/or with electronics test equipment and by implementing software and hardware modifications and electronics repairs.
  • Ability to perform routine programming using computer software that controls electronic security devices.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions sufficient to independently carry out required installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed technical information and effectively communicate technical information to non-technical staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electronics experience in a correctional or secured environment.
  • Experience in the operation and servicing of electronic equipment and systems such as CATV, CCTV, Telephone Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Perimeter Alarms, Computer Networks, Electronic Media, Intercoms and PA’s, or Metal Detection

Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy.
