Job Summary
Join our team of dedicated maintenance staff today! Custodians are responsible for maintaining clean and safe State buildings in and around the State Capitol Complex in St. Paul. Their duties include routine maintenance such as sweeping, dust mopping, vacuuming, emptying waste and recycling bins, cleaning restrooms, and more. Positions are ideal for hard workers that enjoy self-directed work while still being part of a team environment.
This posting is used to fill several positions for all State Office Buildings on the Capitol Complex. Most positions are fulltime evening shift working from 4pm to Midnight. However, some positions may be day shift or have variable hours. Specific building and shift options will be discussed at the time of interview based on current availability. Employees working 2nd shift receive a $2.25/hour pay differential.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment
- A working knowledge of commercial cleaners such as 3M Twist ’n Fill Chemical Management System. Cleaning agent(s) may include, but are not limited to; disinfectants, non-acid bowl cleaner, multipurpose cleaner, glass cleaner, and disinfecting wipes. Must have the ability to appropriately select the agents(s) handle, apply and dispose of safely.
- Methods, tools and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use them effectively and operate safely
Ability to:
- Use hand tools and operate electric cleaning/maintenance equipment.
- Follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
- Keep simple records.
- Establish and maintain good customer service relationships with clientele and co-workers.
- Perform the physical aspects of the job as described above
- Speak and understand basic English

- Demonstrated ability to maintain consistent employment
Physical Requirements
Successful candidate must pass pre-employment physical. Physical Demands: Work Performance Testing (WPT). Job involves exerting up to 20-35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 6-20 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move or lift objects.
