This announcement will be used to fill one full-time vacancy at the Minnesota Veterans Home-Fergus Falls.The work schedule will include at least 80 hours per two-week pay period.
Duties include performing authorized tasks related to housekeeping, laundry, and grounds keeping so that a clean and safe environment is maintained for residents and employees. This includes but is not limited to:
Maintain building floors and hallways to provide a clean, comfortable, healthy and safe environment using machine or manual processes by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing and stripping wax, and vacuuming and scrubbing carpets.
Clean windows, ceilings and walls to maintain a clean, comfortable and safe environment by determining appropriate cleaning agents, mixing chemicals, and applying them.
Clean and maintain rooms and furniture to provide clean, safe and usable resident rooms, common areas, offices, and meeting spaces by dusting, moving, rearranging, setting up or taking down tables and chairs, and making minor repairs to furniture.
Clean restrooms to provide a clean, comfortable and sanitary environment by scrubbing floors, sinks, stools; maintaining supplies of soap and paper products; and emptying wastebaskets and trash containers.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment
- Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely
- Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to operate and use them effectively and make minor repairs
Ability to:
- Use hand tools and handle fairly light materials manually
- Perform work functions using ladders and scaffolding
- Perform laundry functions
- Function in adverse weather conditions
- Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction
- Make minor mechanical repairs to maintenance equipment
- Operate simple maintenance equipment
- Follow instructions, read and understand operational manuals, and keep simple records
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of floor care experience, including stripping, waxing and working with floor equipment
Additional Requirements
This position requires successful completion of the following:
- A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
- A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
- Employment reference checks will be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
