Job Summary
This posting will be used to fill multiple Laborer General positions to work in the Forestry division in the General Andrews Nursery in Willow River, Minnesota.
This position exists to provide the seasonal labor necessary to assist the Seed Procurement Consultant in managing the General Andrews Tree Improvement Site, remotely located tree orchards, and to provide daily activities involved with the production, maintenance, and harvest of tree seed and the care and maintenance of the General Andrews administrative site and facilities.
These positions are part time seasonal with a split season. Season dates are May 1- June 30th, and July 1 - November 30th. Hours and days of work are weather dependent and will vary.
Responsibilities include:
- Carry out all assigned seed orchard field worker tasks.
- Perform specialized seed and cone processing, and greenhouse tree improvement tasks as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of methods, tools and equipment used in maintenance and construction work sufficient to carry out detailed work directions.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions sufficient to carry out verbal assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
- Record keeping and basic math skills sufficient to record inventory data for inventory records
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a group.
- Ability to learn the safe use, operation, and maintenance of tools and equipment used in this work.
- Ability to conduct manual labor to complete outdoor seedling harvest operation tasks that includes ability to lift weights of up to 50 pounds, ability to work under a variety of weather conditions, ability to work on hands and knees when hand weeding and planting, and requires walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain.
- Ability to read and follow instructions on labels, information in instruction manuals, etc.
- Ability to communicate and interact positively with team members and the public.
- Ability to communicate using hand-held radio.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic First Aid/CPR certification or above.
- Experience operating and performing routine maintenance and repair of small and large equipment, and other equipment and tools.
- General farm or construction experience.
- Tree identification skills.
Additional Requirements
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record.
