Job Summary

This position will have the option of teleworking up to two (2) days per week. We are currently in a hybrid work environment.

This position serves as the primary leave management coordinator, administering all coordinated services of FMLA and other leaves of absences with limited supervision. The incumbent will integrate union contract/plan language, federal and state law, and administrative policies/procedures in their daily work. The position also backs up the workers compensation position, serves as the agency DDIR and provides retirement information.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of work experience in human resource or a related field, plus two (2) or more of the related job duties below:

  • Leave of absence management responsibilities (i.e., receiving and responding to leave of absence requests).
  • Data/Database management.
  • Processing HR transactions or payroll duties.
  • Providing union contract interpretation or consultation.
  • Worker's Compensation coordination/management.

AND

Experience with word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.

Oral and written communication skills sufficient to successfully articulate HR policies and procedures, including the ability to communicate sensitive, controversial, or confidential information and decisions to employees and management in a clear and concise manner.

Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact professionally with co-workers, applicants, management, and other employees experiencing major life events.

Knowledge of state and federal statute, laws or policies related to leave management (FMLA, ESST, parenthood leave, paid parental leave, military leave, statutory leaves, contractual leaves).

Knowledge of state collective bargaining agreements, policies, or procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Proficiency with the State of Minnesota's HRIS system (SEMA4).
  • Knowledge of the State of Minnesota's HR policies, best practices, State/Federal laws, and or collective bargaining agreements.
  • Ability to problem-solve, initiate process improvements and document processes.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and moving and transporting light objects frequently. Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move to a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.
