Job Summary
The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General seeks a Safety and Security Intervention Specialist to protect people, property, and assets by responding to emergencies, monitoring surveillance systems, managing access, and enforcing safety policies. This role requires strong communication, de-escalation skills, and the ability to work with diverse communities, as well as proficiency in security technologies and software.
A successful candidate in this position will be able to:
- Quickly and effectively respond to emergencies to safeguard people and property;
- Assist in office evacuations and drills, guiding employees and visitors to safety;
- Monitor and authorize entry, ensuring premises security for visitors and employees;
- Observe and operate surveillance systems to monitor and identify suspicious activity or potential threats;
- Respond to alarms and investigate disturbances, taking appropriate action to ensure safety;
- Document incidents and observations by writing clear and concise security reports;
- Keep detailed and accurate security logs, documenting daily activities, incidents, and pertinent information;
- Communicate and collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services when necessary; and
- Enforce company safety and security policies and protocols to maintain a secure and compliant environment.
This position will be required to perform these duties in-person at the Office's Town Square Tower location in downtown St. Paul, MN.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety and security role (examples to include security guard, law enforcement, or corrections)
- Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain prior to hire; certification must be included on resume
- Proficiency in using video surveillance systems, access control software, and panic alarm technologies
- Writing skills sufficient to document incident reports and maintain log records accurately and consistently
- Communication skills sufficient to provide critical communication efficiently, enforce regulations reasonably but firmly, and develop and present training on security and/or emergency management issues/policy/practices

Demonstrated skill in:
- De-escalation techniques to include the use of conflict resolution sufficient to negotiate, resolve issues, and settle disputes equitably by finding common ground and cooperation
- Evaluating and effectuating safety and security protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with local law enforcement and emergency response teams
- Knowledge of standard police practices including rules of evidence, investigation techniques and procedures, citizen's arrest power, loss prevention techniques, intrusion alarms, detection, surveillance systems equipment and fire alarms
- Bilingual/multilingual fluent in Spanish, Somali, Hmong, or other languages that reflect our workforce and the communities we serve

- Move and/or transport items weighing 25 pounds on a regular basis
- Ascend/descend heights while holding small items weighing up to 10 pounds
