Job Summary
The Department of Natural Resources is seeking to fill two (2) temporary Wetland Management Program Laborer positions. One will be located in Glenwood, and the second will be located in New London. This position will start on May 1st, 2025, and will go through October 31st, 2025.
This position is utilized to support the Wetland Management Program conducting wetland habitat assessments, management, restoration and enhancement projects on Wetland Management Areas (WMA) throughout the State of Minnesota for the Climate Resiliency/Carbon Sequestration Project.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform all job responsibilities in a manner that supports a healthy, safe, and productive work environment for all employees. Encourage a diverse workplace, treat others with respect, and contribute to work groups. Support the overall mission of the DNR.
- Conduct habitat assessments on wetlands as a team or independently. Assessments are done primarily in regions 1&4, travel is required between Fergus Falls, Glenwood, New London and Windom work areas. Assessments include aquatic plant ID, upland plant ID, water quality, wetland structure condition and overall wetland condition.
- Maintaining safe field equipment and storage facilities as directed by Wetland Management Program staff.
- Assist Wetland Program staff with enhancement and restoration management on wetland projects.
This position requires transporting items of up to 50-pounds (e.g., bags of seed), and regularly moving objects such as heavy tools, backpacks, and field equipment often in adverse weather and environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, sun, and wind.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of field methods used to assess wildlife habitat and wetlands.
- Knowledge of Geographic Position Systems (GPS).
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and work independently.
- Ability to operate small equipment, various hand and power tools, outboard motors.
- Ability to measure/record and accurately enter data onto paper and computer programs (water temperature, fish length and weight measurements, fish counts, time sheet data, etc.) and demonstrate attention to detail.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and safely work with others.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience utilizing Geographic Position Systems (GPS).
- Experience operating small equipment, various hand and power tools.
- Experience assessing wildlife habitat and wetlands.
- Experience operating tractors, skid steer, and farm implements.
Additional Requirements
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record.
